In the late 1950s, an unusual story unfolded, casting Armagnac not only as a prestigious beverage but also as an unexpected hero in an aerial adventure.

Jean Armagnac

Jean Armagnac, founder and president of the Nogaro Aero Club, found himself involved in a last-minute mission to procure three pots of top-quality Armagnac. These were intended to be presented as trophies at an airshow in the skies of Bigorre. Pressed for time and obligations, Jean entrusted this task to his friend Jacques, who seized the opportunity to invite a young woman to accompany him on this celestial escapade. Their journey began auspiciously, under a radiant sun heralding the approach of summer.

Aboard the Caudron, the two young people soared lightly over the hills of Gers, admiring the breathtaking landscape. However, euphoria quickly gave way to concern as the biting cold of the Pyrenees began to be felt. The situation became critical as they progressed, with the young woman showing signs of discomfort due to the cold.

Armagnac, a remedy

It was then that Jacques, in a burst of determination, decided to use one of the precious Armagnac bottles as a remedy. With a bold gesture, he opened the bottle and offered his travel companion a few sips of this comforting liqueur. The effect was immediate: the warmth of the Armagnac instantly warmed the young woman, bringing back her smile.

Despite the somewhat chaotic landing that awaited them, the warm welcome from the president of the Tarbes Aero Club, along with his humor regarding the partially consumed Armagnac, concluded this adventure on a positive note.
